Public Testnet (v4 Milestone 4 is Complete)

dYdX
Public Testnet (v4 Milestone 4 is Complete)

Introduction

We are back with another update on v4, and are excited to announce the completion of our fourth of five milestones!

The dYdX Chain public testnet is set to launch on 7/05/2023 at 17:00 UTC!

Please read below for further details and timelines. Happy testing!

A Recap of Milestone 3

With Milestone 3, we added advanced features to our stable internal testnet. The main additions in this milestone were:

  • Placing limit orders
  • Dynamic Funding Rates
  • Using ABCI 2.0 and other latest features of Cosmos-SDK
  • Documentation for Validators and Market Makers

We also worked with a small group of external validators during our private testnet to test various aspects of the network. This involved several infra-level operations including network preparation, starting the network, performing upgrades, and testing core trading flows.

Milestone 4

Milestone 4 marks the completion of features necessary for our public testnet launch, which will include a larger number of validators running our software (40+). We are happy to announce that we completed Milestone 4 ahead of schedule! Our public testnet is set to go live on July 5th at 17:00 UTC. This public testnet will launch with Bitcoin and Ethereum markets but we anticipate that the open source software will include approximately 30+ markets as the network gets upgraded!

The following core flows will be available for testing via integrations, APIs, websockets, and the web front end. The front end will be available on July 5th.

  1. Connect your wallet and generate private keys
  2. Request testnet funds via faucet
    1. Users will be primarily directed to receive testnet USDC from a faucet operated by dYdX Trading Inc.
    2. Over the course of the public testnet, feature releases will be rolled out that enable users to test bridging mechanics from other chains
  3. View the order book
  4. View the price chart, depth chart, funding chart, and market details
  5. View market stats (e.g., 1h funding, 24h volume, etc.)
  6. Place market orders
  7. Place limit orders with advanced options (i.e., FoK, GTT, IOC, and Post-Only)
  8. Cancel short-term and stateful (long-term and on-chain) orders
  9. View orders and fills history by selected market or all markets
  10. View position information by selected market or all markets
  11. View your account’s information and state diffs when placing an order
  12. View position PnL and account historical equity

Please do not hesitate to provide feedback and suggestions while using the v4 testnet! Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to iterate on and improve the software.

Below, you will find links for using and submitting feedback on our public testnet. The feedback form link can be found in our documentation, as well as on our user interface via the question mark icon in the header.

About dYdX and Terms

Here at dYdX, our mission is to democratize access to financial opportunity. We believe that v4 software will represent notable progress in service of that mission. The events in the global economy that have transpired over the last year have only reinforced the need for open, transparent, and permissionless financial products. We’re excited for v4 software to better meet those needs.

If building the future of a decentralized exchange and open finance is something you’re interested in, check out what it’s like to work at dYdX and our open roles!
